Narratives woven into the fabric of cultural memory
These needle-felted works draw on mythological, philosophical and literary sources to explore how stories — told and retold across time — become embedded in collective consciousness. The medium of tapestry, with its slow, tactile process, offers a way to reflect on the material nature of storytelling itself.
As Thomas Carlyle described it, 'Nature and Life [are] one Garment, a Living Garment, woven and ever-a-weaving in the Loom of Time'; a metaphor that resonates with the quiet accumulation of fibre, image and meaning in this ongoing body of work.
Das Licht in der Laguna
Originally conceived for Verdi’s I Due Foscari by Opera St Moritz and Opera Basel, Das Licht in der Laguna is a monumental 22-metre, five-part tapestry series that reflects on Venice’s historical gravitas and ecological fragility. The work translates the ephemeral qualities of water, air and light into textured wool surfaces.
Das Lied von der Erde
Das Lied von der Erde
Ancient wisdom and modern ecological philosophy converge in seven needle-felted metaphorical valleys. Inspired by Attar’s epic ‘Conference of the Birds,’ Albrecht’s Earth Emotions and the enigmatic verses of Erda in Wagner’s Ring, the series explores the philosophical and emotional dimensions of the relationship between humanity and the environment.
Paradise Regained ruminations on the Tree of Life
Paradise Regained
Four works present multiple visions of the ‘Tree of Life,’ an archetypal symbol deeply rooted in numerous mythologies and religious traditions, and as a motif a recurring subject in d'Angelino Tap's work. The collective title of the series references Paradise Regained, the "brief epic poem" by the English poet John Milton.
