Archetypal mythological themes; abstract concepts embodied in prose; transformative narratives from literature that are part of the foundations of storytelling: Told and retold across the arts, these stories seem to be encoded into the fabric of our being. A hidden language once described by Thomas Carlyle as ‘Nature and Life [being] one Garment, a Living Garment, woven and ever a-weaving in the Loom of Time’.
Originally created for the Verdi opera 'I Due Foscari' by Opera St Moritz/Basel, the monumental series of tapestries measures 22m and is a reflection of Venice, a city built upon water. It portrays the delicate balance between its allure and inherent vulnerability, reflecting the interplay between water, air and light in the lagoon.
Ancient wisdom and modern ecological philosophy converge in seven needle-felted metaphorical valleys. Inspired by Attar’s epic ‘Conference of the Birds,’ Albrecht’s Earth Emotions and the enigmatic verses of Erda in Wagner’s Ring, the series explores the philosophical and emotional dimensions of the relationship between humanity and the environment.
Four works present multiple visions of the ‘Tree of Life,’ an archetypal symbol deeply rooted in numerous mythologies and religious traditions, and as a motif a recurring subject in d'Angelino Tap's work. The collective title of the series references Paradise Regained, the "brief epic poem" by the English poet John Milton.
