Originally created for the Verdi opera 'I Due Foscari' by Opera St Moritz/Basel, the tapestry is a reflection of Venice, a city built upon water. It portrays the delicate balance between its allure and inherent vulnerability, reflecting the interplay between water, air and light in the lagoon. Over time, two additional panels were incorporated into the tapestry. The presence of the winged lions of Venice pays homage to the city's rich history, while also paraphrasing the date of the 'aqua Alta' Mosa project. The depiction of the Moorish boy being consumed by the griffin alludes to the ongoing European immigration crisis. The panels serve as a poignant reminder of the perpetual flux and instability that our world experiences.
